The purpose of this blog

This blog has two purpses, to share my poetry, and to share my parenting techniques, including discipline, time management and fun activities. To tell you a little about myself, I am a stay-at-home mother of four very young children. I have a BA in English, with emphasis in education, and I am a self-proclaimed writer. I have been a writer since I was very small and my specialty is poetry and children's books. For years people have told me I should publish my work, but no one really wants to take a chance on poetry. I did find one publisher who said he would publish one of my poems as a children's book if I could guarantee a thousand people would buy it. I have no way of making that happen unless I can get a thousand people to read it. My husband suggested a blog, so I'm giving it a try. Before you go any further, though, I must tell you that my poetry is Christian based. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and my poetry is a reflection of the Savior. That being said, I will occasionally post poems to see if I get a response to them. If you like them and would be willing to buy a published book of the poem put to pictures, please let me know and then tell your friends. In addition to this, I would love the opportunity to write a specialty poem just for you. Many people have come to me to ask me to write a poem for their anniversary, baptism, eagle scout award, and even Valentines day. They tell me what they want it to say, and I put it to rhyme. If you would like a specialized poem for any occassion, let me know and we can discuss exactly what you want and pricing options.
In addition to people telling me to publish my poetry, I have had numerous people tell me I should publish a book on my prenting techniques. This is another thing I will address on this blog. Who knows, maybe one day I will publish a book on it, but I'd like to try on a smaller scale first and see if anyone is really interested.
So there you have it. That's what this blog is about. Here's the first poem. If I get a large response to this, I will post another. Since it is Christmas time, I have decided to start with the story of Christ's birth put to rhyme. Let me know what you think. Oh, and by the way, please don't reproduce this without asking me first, okay. Thanks for your time and interest.

AND THIS SHALL BE THE SIGN

Twas the night before our Savior’s birth and silence filled the morn
For the signs had all been given that Christ would soon be born

Joseph a Jewish carpenter and Mary a mother to be
Journeyed into Bethlehem from their home in Galilee

Now when they reached this Bethlehem, the days had finally come
For Mary being great with child, to bear her firstborn son

Joseph asked the inn keeper for a place where they could stay
But having no room left inside he turned the two away

The only shelter they could find was a stable soiled and wroth
Here Mary birthed her firstborn son and wrapped him in linen cloth

Now in this same country there were shepherds keeping watch o’er their flocks by night
When the glory of God came upon them and they saw an angel of light

This angel brought good tidings and great joy to all the earth
For he declared the message of the babe’s most humble birth

For unto you is born this day in David’s city line
A Savior which is Christ the Lord and this shall be the sign

The babe will be wrapped in swaddling clothes with a manger for his bed
Then multitudes of angels came singing peace, good will to men

The shepherd went with haste to see if what they heard was true
While wisemen came in from the east to worship Jesus too

And so it was that sacred night when earth and heaven met
Jesus Christ came to the earth that he may pay our debt

And so it is at Christmas time, great happiness Christ brings
Merry Christmas one and all, may earth receive her king

I love your poem! It is beautiful. Thanks for sharing! And I would definitely buy a book with your poetry. I can say I knew her when we were up at 6:00am marching in the cold!
